Opening Meditation
Let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due season we shall reap,
if we do not lose heart. -- Galatians 6:9
Introduction
Allow me to personally welcome you to the official home of the Wanaisa Virtual Ministry, serving the entire Internet world into the 21st century as a source of guidance and inspiration for those of all faiths and spiritual affiliation. As I develop this web site, I hope that it will serve its purpose, which is a guide to allow individuals to improve their lives on their own personal and intrapersonal levels, thus resulting in a richer, more meaningful existence, more atune to one's dreams and aspirations.
You will not find pages filled with scriptures and the standard denominational icons or symbols frequently seen on other somewhat similar web sites or in places of worship, but you may find reference to spiritual texts and writers, and perhaps symbolic art works from different parts of the world, where I think it may be appropriate. I try to write in an easily understandable manner without discussing specialized terms, which can be confusing at times. My references to God refer to that ultimate higher power, that most, including athiests or non-believers, believe in under some form, be it male, female, or just the principle of creation and order in the Universe.
The Roots and Purpose of Wanaisa
The Church of Life was founded on the 5th day of August 1981 -- its Membership Constitution states its aims --
Professor Rev. Warner Sizemore, who was then teaching in the Philosophy and Religion Department of Glassboro State College (now known as Rowan University, in central New Jersey) invited me to give some lectures to his classes. We had collaborated several times before on different projects, and in conversations with me, he suggested that he wanted to establish a new ministry which embodied his personalized view of spirituality, which we shared, that was more in phase with modern society and the individual's search for validating personal freedom, individuality and choice. After many discussions, we established Wanaisa as the East coast branch of the California based Church of Life, a federally registered religious institution for tax purposes, although it was not absolutely necessary, since any religious entity is legally certified as tax exempt under existing statutes for donations, whether they officially apply for an exemption code or not. The Wanaisa Ministry is an official registered not for profit religious institution in New Jersey
Rev. Sizemore chose the name for our new Church from a local New Jersey Indian word meaning whippoorwill, a songbird noted for its nocturnal serenades -- Wanaisa was, then, to be the bearer of this heavenly voice found in Nature, to accompany those in their darker moments of need and uncertainty, hoping to lighten their burden and to bring a renewal of optimism to their endeavors.
I had done research in the Natural Sciences, and was concentrating on factors in our environment which affect human behaviour and terrestrial life in general. My teaching experience of over 35 years includes from grade school and high school to university undergraduate and graduate level classes, both in the United States and in Spain -- my formal education also includes studies in several other nations including Germany, Israel, Italy, among others. My experience and observations in foreign countries, living and working with the people for extended periods of time, allowed me to gain perspectives of not only science, but also of differing views of Life, how others think, act and relate to their surroundings. I was able to sense a thread running through everything I encountered, and I noted that Life is somehow connected to a seemingly mysterious woven fabric of threads, for everybody every where -- the colors and patterns in the cloth may be culturally different, some more colorful, perhaps easy to understand what they represent, while yet others are somewhat more geometric, symbolistic, or what is called in art, surrealistic, leading to various interpretations by different observers -- yet the weave is from the same loom, Life itself and a striving towards greater self awareness and accomplishment -- I call this connection, the TAO of Life.
I had intuitively reached the same conceptual conclusion, in my early 20s -- on 24 January 1962 I wrote : ...only by DOING, by actively participating in the vibration of the Universe can one be in any way satisfied in Life.
Life does not accidentally happen to us -- we influence, in many ways, what occurs to us and that which transpires in our immediate surroundings, within our families and among our friends, in the opportunities presented to us for learning and individual fulfillment, for the betterment of mankind and society as a whole -- the secret is to be aware of this fact and be able to utilize this knowledge on a moments notice, or perhaps never be given the opportunity again.
Many important inventions have been discovered almost by accident, but the inventor was able to realize that something new had happened, and had the resourcefulness and imagination to project its potential future usefulness. Stay awake and keep your eyes open for seemingly little, insignificant things, call them signs, if you will -- for you, too, could go down in history as the inventor of the newest best mouse trap, or the developer of the successor to eBay or Google! It happens on a smaller personal scale every day.
Over the centuries, many philosophers, spiritual leaders, psychologists and others have expressed this same concept in somewhat different words -- here are two that are easy to understand :
What appears to be coming at you is really coming from you. Jack London
Happiness is never "out there". It is within you. Never let your happiness reside in other people. Quentin Crisp
The establishment so-called experts may say basically the same thing, using strange sounding terms such as serendipity, intuition, deja vu, synchronicity, the alpha brain wave/deep sleep state, or give some esoteric / parapsychological meaning to this TAO of Life, but whatever one calls it, the entire idea boils down to a few simple words -- awareness, resolve, action and responsibility -- frequently a fearlessness of the unknown and an adventuresome spirit must also accompany this readiness, able to overcome the initial shock of some totally new and different path suddenly opening up before us. It happens to everyone, and the older we get, the less spontaneously we seem to be able to react by at least testing the previously unchartered waters of experience. But the choice is still ours for the taking -- DO IT -- you may be amazed a few years down the road at the positive long term results, and feel good about yourself for having taken those first steps on a new Life journey! The process does not begin with costly visits to a psychoanalyst -- the key is sitting right in your own heart and soul -- USE IT!
to thine own self be true, And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man. / William Shakespeare

My vision is that Wanaisa will eventually contain sections which may be read in a spare moment, returned to as the individual need arises, either written by me or submitted by my readers, on subjects ranging from : how to relax, children, health, marriage, school and learning, parenting, food and recipes, leisure time and hobbies, sex, on retirement, and potentially other topics leading to spiritual and bodily self improvement, a more complete understanding of the world around us and how we are influenced by it, yet can overcome much of the negativity encountered along the road.
